Humble hero

November 13, 2014 03:43 pm | Updated 03:45 pm IST

This humble man wearing a dhoti became a remarkable figure in the history of mankind and not only in India. Gandhiji never gave way to violence and stuck to Ahimsa, no matter what happened. He not only played a big part in Indian independence, but also brought about many changes that benefited the common folk of India. He made life better for the poor and helped them earn a livelihood by encouraging the production of local merchandise made by the merchants. He got many Indians to understand that even people belonging to lower castes deserved respect and equal rights. Gandhiji planted the idea in Indians that satyagraha and ahimsa can achieve what violence and bloodshed cannot.

Many global leaders like Martin Luther King Jr. were inspired by this man. On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanthi, every Indian must take a moment to pay tribute to this outstanding political leader, Mahatma Gandhi.
