Padma Shri awardee and noted choreographer and dancer Astad Deboo, was in the city to perform “Interpreting Tagore”, a contemporary dance recital based on Rabindranath Tagore's poems. He conducted a workshop at Vidyaranya School in collaboration with the Goethe-Zentrum Hyderabad, Association for German Culture.
Spellbound
Over a 100 children turned up for this workshop. They were divided into groups so that each child could learn and experience the best. Deboo's fusion of movements had city students spellbound and there was so much to learn from his works.
“It was a wonderful experience working with the children. I also work with street children and train the special children who are hearing impaired,” said Astad Deboo. Madhu, a Std. VII student from Vivekananda Convent High School, was ethusiastic about attending the workshop. A trained Kuchipudi dancer herself, she wanted to have a broader perspective on all forms of dance.
“The slow motion dance of Astad Deboo was very different and needed a lot of concentration. It will help in my dance as well,” says Madhu. Divya, a Std. VI student, was influenced by his recital. “I enjoy and perform folk dances at school. The technique I learnt at the workshop will help me mix and design my own moves - just like Astad Deboo,” she hopes.
