Here's an answer to those complaining about the diminishing reading habits of the young generation. A literary forum that envisages to nurture the creative potential of children and to inculcate in them a taste for literature, was launched recently.
The O2 Kids Club opened at the Oxford Book store, Nungambakkam, and is a joint venture of the Oxford Bookstore and the Orange media.
The club intended for young readers of the age group four to 16 will host events including discussions and debates on different genres of literature, workshops in arts and crafts, educational trips and sessions with experts in various fields. Competitions and brief sessions on manners and etiquette would also be a part of it.
The evening witnessed a colourful ceremony with the kids showcasing their creative talents. Nila Rajeev, winner of the ‘Super Mom contest', was the chief guest. She spoke on the various aspects of “creative parenting”.
Kavitha Shah and Sangita Shah from the Orange media were also present. Kavitha said that the club would be a nice platform for children to develop their skills and grow up into better citizens.
The programmes by kids included a Mridangam performance by Aryan and a song by Rithika.
Ashutosh presented a story and Anushka recited a poem.
A group of energetic girls danced to the tune of this season's popular song — “Waka Waka”.
The club aims to introduce the children to a new topic every month .It includes interactive sessions and ingenious activities like poetry writing, pebble painting, creative writing and quiz .
