On World Environment Day, schools in the city conducted various activities to make students understand the importance of caring for the environment.

The programmes also highlighted that it was a collective effort to check global warming and it was important to focus on recharging the depleting groundwater table, mandatory implementation of rainwater harvesting, conservation of water and stress on afforestation to ensure more oxygen and rains.
The emphasis was also on garbage recycling and containing the use of polythene. Speakers at these programmes suggested ways to contain pollution by using paper and cloth bags instead of polythene bags and a complete ban on using plastic materials.
At Ryan Global School,students took part in a badge making activity to promote World Environment Day. Students were given pieces of chart paper, sketch pens, glue and other material to make creative badges and pinned them to their shirts. Students also wore green T-shirts to express and promote greenery on planet Earth.
Green ambassadors of Ganga International School and PU College brought home the theme, “We have only one planet, Mother earth, save it from environmental disasters” through various activities.
They went around the neighbourhood to spread the message on the harmful effects of deforestation, pollution and exploitation of water wealth, through placards, cartoons, slogans and green posters.
In all 300 students participated along with their teachers. The objective was to create awareness among students as well as residents of the neighbourhood.
N Ganganarasaiah, president of the institution highlighted the importance of contribution of the young in keeping the surroundings clean and green.
