It’s that time of the year again. Yes, it’s time to sharpen your wits and get smart — The HinduYoung World Quiz is here.

This is the 14th edition of the quiz and over the years, enthusiasm and participation have grown in leaps and bounds making this one of the most looked forward to events of the year.

The Hindu Young World Quiz will begin in Thiruvananthapuram on October 29 and wind its way through Kochi, Kozhikode, Chennai, Puducherry, Tiruchi, Madurai, Coimbatore, Salem, Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Hubli and culminate in Mangalore for the Grand Finale. There are three prizes to be won at every regional round and three in the finals.

Wide ranging

The questions that will be asked are wide and varied and it would help if you have been doing a lot of reading — not just your text books, but newspapers, magazines, fiction and more. The topics could cover epics, films, music, art, science, history and anything else that could be of interest to the Quiz Master. If there is any subject of interest be sure that a question would be asked on that.

At the finals last year, Loyola School, Thiruvananthapuram walked away with the first prize. Apart from the prize money, the winning teams also received gifts, trophies and certificates.

It was an interesting coincidence that Loyola School had also won the quiz 13 years ago when the quiz first began.

Students from Stds. VII to IX are eligible to participate. Two students from the same school can form a team. Each school is eligible to send in a maximum of four teams. Entry cards will be sent to them. Schools are required to send the entries to the regional office of The Hindu . Schools that have not received entry forms can make use of the spot registration that will be available at the venue. They will need to carry proper authorisation letters from their school principals.
