Cherished grandmum

February 11, 2013 09:04 pm | Updated 09:04 pm IST

I have had lots of exhilarating experiences with my grandmother. Now what can I do is only cherish the memories of her because she passed away recently, opening the door to eternal life with the golden key of death.

I have spent time with her in the house when my parents used to go out. She used to tell me stories of labour strikes and the working of the paddy fields. She told me that my grandfather owned vast lands of paddy fields with a lot of workers.

In the end she would say that the paddy workers had left after my grand father’s demise. And this made her sad. Now, the house stands devoid of happiness, stories and jokes. This extreme grief compels me to say that happiness has departed us in the wake of my grandmum’s death.
