My vacation began in April. My father was planning a holiday, but unfortunately he could not make it, as he had some work. He, however, suddenly decided that I accompany my grandmother to U.S. I was excited to go to the U.S. as this was my second trip to that country and the other thing was that I was going to meet my cousin Raghav.

We left early in the evening. We took the Emirates flight. It was a four-hour journey to Dubai and the connecting flight to U.S. was almost 14 hours. A hectic journey, but we had a lot of fun on the flight. I watched a few cartoon films, played video games and whiled away my time. Finally, we landed safely in the U.S. After all the formalities in the immigration, we came out and saw my uncle with my cousin. My cousin Raghav is two and a half years old and was very excited to see me and my grandma.

My uncle and aunt used to take me out every week-end. I used to go to my cousin’s play school to pick him up in the evening. While returning, we always saw the fire engine and a huge garbage truck. Raghav is so fond of these vehicles that he has to see them at least once a day! Once the driver of the fire engine called us and gave us advice on what to do and what not to do, if there was a fire; how to protect ourselves from fire accidents and some safety tips. This was a very valuable advice and a must for every child of my age. He gave us a plastic bag containing small booklets on fire safety precautions. He made me and Raghav sit in the fire engine and took a photograph, too. It was so nice of him. He took us around in his vehicle and we really enjoyed it!

One week-end, we went to an aquarium where we saw sea-lions, sharks, tortoise, fishes, seal, and dolphins and spent nearly half a day watching them. Another week-end, we went to Sesame place — a spot just like our ‘Kishkintha’. There were so may waterrides and other normal rides. I was very enthusiastic and enjoyed each and every ride there. We spent a whole day there.

I also went to nearby parks, places like Times Square, Brooklyn Bridge, World Trade Centre and so on and got an opportunity to meet different people.

Thus my vacation was spent joyfully and I had to return to Chennai, as my school was to re-open.
