Twelve-year-old G. Neha from Hyderguda village in Ranga Reddy District won a gold prize at the 18th World Children's Picture contest organised by Ie No Hikari Association, Japan recently.

Her artwork titled “Me in rain” is a colograph print taken manually in multicolour.

Winner from thousands

Neha has been attending the rural art centre Sanskrit established by Young Envoys International, Hyderabad, for the last four years. The event held in Japan had 27, 840 children from 60 countries. They worked on various themes such as nature, agriculture, family and people.

An international jury consisting of eminent artists and art educators selected the works for the awards.

The event is supported by the Ministers of Culture, Education, Sports, Agriculture, Forestry and Foreign Affairs of Japan, International Society for Education Through Art, International Co-operative Alliance, Japan and the Federation of Art Education teachers of Japan.

Neha is the only Indian student to win the gold and her work is prominently featured in the “Commutative book of winners” this year. Last year she received a gold medal at the 2nd International Child Art Exhibition. She is in Std. VIII at AVM School, Rajendra Nagar, R R District and simultaneously attending art classes at Sanskrit rural art centre.
