Students of municipal schools, exposure to craft work, folk art forms, Annamacharya kirtanas and sports at a summer camp held recently.
This was also beneficial as some of these children would otherwise have been pushed into manualwork by the parents and thus making them them into school drop-outs.
Andhra University Evergreen Engineers' (1964-69) Benevolence that has adopted the GVMC primary school in Ward 7 of MVP Colony organised the summer cultural and sports camp for the students.
Around 100 students attended the camp where they learnt pot and glass painting, embroidery, making soft toys and decorative items.

Besides, the children practised folk arts like kolatam and narrating burra kadha . ( Burra katha can also be spelled as Burrakatha , It is a story-telling technique used in villages of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. The troupe consists of one main performer and two co-performers.
It is a narrative entertainment consists of prayers, solo drama, dance, songs, poems and jokes. The topic will be either a Hindu mythological story or a contemporary social problem.)
The camp did not lack in physical activity as badminton, football, kho kho and skipping were included. The summer camp was organised though it was not a part of the MoU entered into with GVMC in 2009 during the adoption of the school, says S. Trinadha Rao of AU Evergreen Engineers' Benevolence.
Encouraged by the success of the camp, the association has decided to organise crafts, music and dance classes every Saturday regularly.
