Crossword hosted the launch of "Collins Big Cat Read at Home" series, featuring stories written by noted children's authors and illustrators. The workshop included interactive story reading sessions from the books, exciting games, art and craft sessions. Children in the age group of two to six years were all ears as the stories were being read out to them.
Time to read
"These stories aim at promoting the reading habit among children and building their self confidence from a nascent stage. The bright colourful pictures make the story telling fun," says Ana, a teacher who was reading out the stories to children present here. Rohan, a student of International School, liked the story telling session. So did his friends.
About the series, apart from the narrative the illustrations and photography here provide lots of speaking and listening opportunities.
There is a reader response activity in every book to encourage discussion and comprehension.
It includes ideas for guided reading in the back of every book with lots of activities to scaffold writing and also offers a wide range of interesting subjects.
The USP of the toddlers' series is that one can go beyond the book i.e. there are notes and exercises at the end of each book on how to use the series for various activities for children.
The workshop promoted reading as a habit and also encouraged parents and children to work together.
