Walk through the main streets of the affluent Sadashivanagar and you will see Bangalore's designer houses where politicians, actors and some of the city's oldest and wealthiest families boast an address.

Large and canopied, many of the structures reflect distinct architectural designs and represent one of the most expensive properties in the city.

The average property price for apartments in Sadashivanagar, according to real estate consultants, is a whopping Rs. 12,000 (per sq.ft) whereas individually built houses demand around Rs. 14,500 per sq.ft. The average property rates for residential plots is upwards of Rs. 16,000.

This is expected to rise further after the recent increase in guidance value. However, one does not see the altruism associated with the name of the area. Sadashivanagar is named after Karnad Sadashiva Rao, a social reformer, patriot, tireless organiser and champion to the downtrodden.

This humanitarian, who was a Gandhian in his principles, took to an austere, simple life, dying at the age of 56 in 1936.
