After a busy day spent at work and tiresome distances travelled to reach and return from the workplace, a strained body yearns to just lounge and relax.
Quite naturally, given the changes in contemporary lifestyle that have ended up adding more and more stress, focus has shifted to finding better ways of seating and relaxing during leisure hours. It follows then, that furniture to lounge needs to be wisely chosen.
The latest in lounge furniture includes sofas, recliners, bean bags, consoles, sectionals and ottomans. However, most preferred in the city is to have easy-to-sink-into sofas and recliners while some have been ambitious enough to include diwans and bean bags.
This range of furniture comes at a price but the good news is that if well-made, the furniture is durable and needs only slight modifications to suit changing preferences of consumers.
At the most, the sofa curves and springs might need strengthening or the external surface may need to be changed if scratched, to make for more comfortable seating.
Super-deep seat depths and extended back rests with adjustable seating positions are also in vogue and minor adjustments may need to be made to incorporate these features.
At Living Space in Somajiguda, the sofas start at Rs.18,000, the recliners at Rs.14,000, diwans at Rs.10,000 and chairs at a modest Rs.2,000. The business is brisk, as Mr. Muzaffar, the proprietor says. “We easily sell about 20-25 pieces of furniture per month,” he adds.
At ‘The Woods’, a store in Secunderabad, prices are more or less the same. The store indulges in customised bean bags also, the prices of which vary from Rs.2,000 to Rs.3,000.
Bean bags have steadily been gaining popularity as they are easy to adjust, portable and good to relax in.
What might come as a surprise is that lounge furniture is not specifically targeted to suit a certain age-group.
In other words, lounges have become widely popular amongst all age-groups and so all that needs to be taken care of is that the person can lean back with ease.
