It’s her choice

Women play a key role in purchasing a home, says Kishor Pate

It is an interesting fact that most developers will not consider a purchase inquiry legitimate unless the lady of the house is present. When it comes to buying a home, the male prerogative takes a backseat.

Homes are made by women, not men. Every man knows this, and respects the judgment of a woman while buying a home. Women have a better perspective about what should be included or excluded to make the home comfortable and suitable for family life.

There is more than just psychology attached to why women play such an important role in selecting a home. It is she who spends the most time at home and has a deep knowledge of what is required. She can instinctively judge whether the price of a residence fits into the family budget.

Factors men often overlook include future maintenance costs, safety of children and elderly family members, availability of storage space, hygiene of immediate surroundings, drainage, means of garbage disposal and noise levels.

A woman’s eye for detail is the primary reason why property brochures tend to be minutely detailed as most features make sense only to women.

Moreover, most of today's women are active financial partners. They have a complete grasp of the family's financial abilities, and their in-built sense of what constitutes real value takes on a whole new meaning when it comes to buying a home. Given the fact that the woman plays such an eminent role in home purchase, and that the entire fabric of residential property marketing is squarely focussed on her, the oft-repeated statement that Indian real estate is male-dominated is totally invalidated. She is, in fact, a major mover and shaker.
