Technical land-related terminologies differ in each State

The nomenclature used for land records and the locally used land measurement terminologies radically differ in each State in India. They are as follows:

Name of the State and basic land record name

Andhra Pradesh – Pahani

Assam - Jamabandi/Patta

Bihar - Khatiyan

Chhattisgarh - P-II/B-I

Delhi (UT) - Khatauni

Gujarat - 7/12

Haryana - Jamabandi

Himachal Pradesh - Jamabandi

Jharkhand - Khatiyan

Karnataka - Pahani (RTC) and Katha (for city property)

Kerala - Thandapper and Field Extract

Madhya Pradesh - Khasra

Maharashtra - 7/12 and Property Card (for city property)

Odisha - ROR/Patta

Puducherry (UT) - Patta

Punjab - Jamabandi

Rajasthan - Jamabandi

Tamil Nadu - Patta and Town Survey Land Register (TSLR for city property)

Telangana – Pahani

Uttar Pradesh - Khatauni

West Bengal - ROR/Khatian/Parcha

Name of the State and locally used land measurement terminology

Apart from common land measurements such as hectares, acres, sq.ft. and sq.m., the following are locally used land measurement terminologies across States

Andhra Pradesh - Gunta (for village properties), Anganam (in coastal AP) and sq.yard (for city properties)

Assam - Lessa and Bigha

Bihar - Katta, Decimal and Bigha

Chhattisgarh - Bigha

Delhi (UT) - Bigha and Biswa

Gujarat - Gunta (for village properties)

Haryana - Bigha, Biswa, Biswani, Kanal, Marla

Himachal Pradesh - Bigha, Biswa, Biswani, Kanal, Marla

Jharkhand - Katta, Decimal and Bigha

Karnataka - Gunta (for village properties)

Kerala - Cents

Madhya Pradesh - Bigha

Maharashtra - Gunta (for village properties)

Odisha - Decimals (In Cuttack, 1 Acre = 100 Decimals and in Bhubaneshwar, 1 Acre = 1000 Decimals)

Puducherry (UT) - Cawnie, Kuzhi, Centiors, Veesam

Punjab - Bigha, Biswa, Biswani, Kanal and Marla

Rajasthan - Bigha and Biswa

Tamil Nadu – Cents and Grounds

Telangana - Gunta (for village properties) and sq.yards for city properties

Uttar Pradesh - Bigha

West Bengal - Cottah Decimal/Sadak/Bigha
