Velachery and Tambaram, which earlier were outposts of the city, have now grown up to be urban nodes in their own right. Not only are they preferred destinations and home to large apartments, many large and designer residences are fast emerging here as well.

The Bishnoi’s residence in Velachery designed by Oscar & Ponni Architects is a contemporary house that resembles a simple cube. The exterior of this two storey house is cladded with cool grey granite and pink and the stone veneer acts as a thermal layer. In this 8000 sq.ft spacious house, an intelligent building system controls for light fixtures, drape movements and security systems through an array of remotes.

The BN residence in Tambaram by Inventarchitects, built on a street concept. Bright colours, natural stone cladding, a series of projections and recesses makes the narrow site appear broader.

In another residence for Vikasa by Shilpa Architects, contemporary sensibilities blend with vernacular motifs. Brick finishes with stone flooring, sloped roof laid in angular pattern are appealing.
