Selection of paint isn't the sole responsibility of a painter any longer and more and more buyers are taking the onus of picking the right brand for their homes.
Health quotient
As end-consumers are more sensitive to their needs and well-being as compared to a contractor, interest is being taken in the health quotient of paints now. Promoting healthy living to the hilt, it is important to keep certain points in mind when painting.
Any plastering, repairing and waterproofing should be done before painting.
All structural cracks must be open in V shape filled with White Cement/Cement based Plasters and leakage should be stopped, before actual painting. Do check for areas that require repair before painting.
Remove all hardware from doors and windows, loosen lighting fixtures or mask them with tape or paper. Decide your budget and buy all paint in one batch and in the largest possible pack size for convenience and economy. This reduces the possibility of colour variations between batches.
Before painting, dust walls thoroughly with a dry mop and use roller, brush or spray gun to paint large surfaces. Choose paints which are ‘Lead Free' and ‘Low' or ‘Zero VOC'.
Best results
And before the first coat, all the wall surfaces should be evened using a quality primer/putty.
For best results, apply 2-3 coats of paints, rather than one thick coat.
