CommonFloor.com’s ‘RightStep’ initiative to be held today is to help apartment residents understand key aspects of association formation and management. A look by Ranjani Govind
Living in apartments can be hassle free only when some of the most basic amenities are put in place. Realising the Herculean effort that is needed for this purpose, and seeing the problems that are increasingly being faced by residents and apartment associations, realty portal CommonFloor.com has organised a forum today (January 26, Global Incubation Services, JSS Institution Campus, HAL 3rd Stage, behind Hotel Leela Palace, Kodihalli) to help people form meaningful resident welfare associations.
The get-together of think-tanks will take up important subjects that matter to apartment living, particularly waste management.
“A series of such forums will address challenges in urban and apartment living to spread awareness and clarity on key aspects of setting up and running resident welfare associations,” says a release from CommonFloor.com. City Mayor D. Venkatesh Murthy will address the forum to share the objectives of the State behind the solid waste management drive. The other panellists at the forum, comprising senior association members, BBMP officials, and legal and subject experts will address concerns of apartment residents, speak on guidelines and duties of associations, and on issues such as formation of new associations and local legislations. Water harvesting guidelines, accounts auditing, security, and maintaining sewage treatment plants would also feature in the discussion.
Key speakers will include S. Venkatesh Shekar, Environmental Officer, KSPCB; Ananth Kodavasal, Environmental Officer and STP expert; N.S. Ramakanth, renowned solid waste management activist; and Mithun Girehalli, noted advocate.
Vikas Malpani, Co-founder and Head-Communities, CommonFloor.com says, “There are close to 8,000 apartment complexes across the city, with more than 10 lakh people living here. Understanding the difficulties that new association members face in forming and running the association, we believe this forum will help members learn from the experiences of more experienced associations and network with peer associations that are facing similar issues. This is the first of its kind initiative that brings all stakeholders like association members, civic authorities and legal experts together to discuss aspects of efficient apartment management.”
