Did you know that the 'Indian-style' modular kitchen is most sought-after? Or that blue is the 'go-to' colour for kitchens? A new study reveals

Sulekha.com recently conducted a market study on online search trends in 2013 for 'Kitchen Needs'. This study is an analysis of the 2,44,107 visits that kitchen.sulekha.com garnered in the last five months and the website’s database of over 10,000 listings.

According to a press release, the study found that 85 per cent of interest and investments in modern kitchens comes from Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh and Jaipur. The report reveals that most customers look at a price point of Rs.2.5 lakhs. However, there are also customers who are willing to spend up to Rs.15 lakhs on their kitchens.

Among kitchen shapes, the study revealed that ‘L-Shaped’, ‘Parallel’ and ‘U-Shaped’ kitchens are most popular. ‘L Shaped’ kitchens have a large island with a sink on one wall, range on the other, and a preparation sink in the island, thereby making a huge counter space possible.

This type of kitchen is ideal when one is faced with space crunch. ‘Parallel’ kitchens are designed to ensure maximum utilisation of available space without compromising on the convenience of cooking. ‘U shaped’ kitchens are open kitchens.

Indian-style modular kitchens are popular and receive four times the visits that Italian kitchens do because they are mostly L-Shaped, which enhances floor space. With drawers and cabinets embedded, it makes the counter free of space crunch.

Italian style kitchens have low-cost cabinets and enough center space for main chores in the kitchen and a small kiosk.

The most favoured colour for kitchens is blue, followed by green and red. Cabinets, baskets and built-in appliances are most-searched for followed by cutlery trays and chimney and hoods.
