The ornate wooden pillars and idyllic setting of Dreamz make it the perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of Fort Kochi.
With Easter holidays round the corner and the tourist season reaching its zenith, the private home turned into a guest house has become the cynosure of all eyes.
Refurbished by Swiss architect Karl Damshen, Dreamz provides a cosy, comfy, private place right in the heart of Fort Kochi, says Edgar Pinto, owner of the more than a century-old house. Located bang opposite the iconic Chinese fishing nets, the house, complete with a large bedroom and a modest kitchen, has a large open space into which sunshine and air flood in. Though set along a row of buildings on a land area of just two cents, approximately 800 sq.ft., Dreamz is surprisingly airy, spacious and a spell of quietness falls around as the house shuts out the frenzied activities around it. The interior, approximately 700-sq. ft., is marked by red oxide flooring and old floor tiles, which blend well with the antique furniture and modern art pieces.
Mr. Pinto says his main objective was to fashion the house in such a way that its old-world charm merged well with modern amenities.
Mr. Pinto recalls that the original owner of the house had tried to give it a modern twist. However, Mr. Pinto retained the old structure after he bought the house. He made sure it stood out and looked worthy of its age amid the large number of significantly old buildings that are part of the heritage of Fort Kochi.
