Right outside the entrance to a temple near Fort Kochi, two well-built young men fight like cats and dogs, ignoring a dumbstruck girl standing nearby. People standing in a corner of the road watch the scene speechlessly as the two battle it out. There is a pause in the brawl as the youngsters try to out stare each other before they begin again. They stop, smile at each other and begin chatting as soon as the director says ‘cut’. It is the location of director Lal Jose’s Vikramadityan and the two young men involved in the scuffle are Vikraman (Unni Mukundan) and Adityan (Dulquer Salmaan). In fact, the names of their characters add up to the title as well. Deepika (Namitha Pramod) is the girl watching the slugfest from the sidelines.
“It is the story of these two guys – from their childhood to the time both of them get a job. The two are friends but get into tiffs quite often. The bridge that links the two is this girl,” says Lal Jose. Besides Kochi, shooting has also been scheduled in Delhi.
Nivin Pauly plays a guest role. Anoop Menon plays a police constable, who is Vikraman’s father. Lena acts as Adityan’s mother, a jail warden, and Joy Mathew dons the role of a homoeopath.
Vikraman and Deepika live in the same locality, while Adityan lives in a house next to a nearby slum. In the scene that is being canned, the two are sorting out some differences, that cropped up after some competition.
Dulquer says he can’t reveal much about his character. “Rather raw, Adityan has a tendency to get into trouble. The journey of my character, from his birth to the present day, is being narrated here,” he says.
He is just back after the first schedule of Ranjith’s film, Njan . “I will complete this one and go back for the next schedule of the film,” he explains. In the meantime, Unni also joins the conversation.
“My character is a Brahmin boy who is being groomed to become a cop. He is a perfectionist and there is a healthy competition between him and Adityan,” says Unni about Vikraman.
“I had done a brief role in Dulquer’s Theevram and from then on we wanted to work together,” he adds.
Namitha Pramod, the heroine, has worked with veterans such as Dileep in Sound Thoma and Kunchacko Boban in Law Point. It is her first film with Dulquer and Unni.
“See, I have pierced my nose for the role. Deepika is a Konkani girl from a conventional background,” says Namitha. Vikramadityan is being produced by Lal Jose under the banner of L.J. Films. Iqbal Kuttippuram has written the script. Jomon T. John is the cinematographer and Bijibal is the music director. Stills are by Momi.
