‘What is a good play?' A symposium organised as part of The Hindu MetroPlus Theatre Fest will explore and debate questions relating to our judgment and evaluation of plays.
Open to all, the event on August 9 will be held at 6.30 p.m. at the Binny Room, Taj Connemara Hotel.
The panel comprises actor Sheeba Chadha, The MetroPlus Playwright Award winner Neel Chaudhuri, and theatre critics Keval Arora and Sadanand Menon. The discussion will be moderated by Arshia Sattar.
The symposium will consist of short presentations, discussion, and questions and comments from the audience.
Sheeba Chadha works on stage, and in films and television. Her most recent play was ‘Hedda Gabler' directed by Rehaan Engineer. She's also been seen in ‘The Blue Mug' by Atul Kumar.
Neel Chaudhuri is a stage director and playwright who also has an active interest in films. He won The MetroPlus Playwright Award 2010 for ‘Taramandal' (staged as part of the Fest on August 8).
Keval Arora is a well-known theatre critic who teaches English and drama at Kirori Mal College, Delhi, and often directs plays with students. Both Chadha and Arora have been on the jury for The MetroPlus Playwright Award.
Sadanand Menon is a photographer and journalist with a special focus on culture and politics. He teaches at the Asian College of Journalism.
Arshia Sattar has twice served on The MetroPlus Playwright Award jury. She focusses on classical Indian literature and teaches narrative at various colleges and universities. She was the festival director for the Ranga Shankara Theatre Festival 2005 in Bangalore.
