HYDERABAD: Saveri Samskrutika Samstha staged Mahabhakta Sabari last week at Thyagaraya Ganasabha sponsored by Department of Culture and Language of Telangana. Saveri Bhavani, its principal actress, donned the title role in the play penned by M. Purushothamacharya and directed by G. Satyanarayana.

Saveri Bhavani played the title role of Sabari impressively. Ramesh played her father’s role. Komaruvolu Srinivas played Singamallu, lover of young Sabari, Ravali Ramesh took the role of her father Kurappan Dora. Bandakavi Raman’s portrayal of sage Matanga Maharshi was impressive. Srihari, Kutumba Sarma played disciples of Matanga Maha Muni. S.K. Sundaram was in the prime role of Rama with Surendra Raju playing Rama’s brother Lakshmana. Devadasu, Dasaratha Reddy and Venkatesara Rao were in other roles. This play was replete with plenty of verses and songs.

The support given by Janakiram on harmonium and Sudhakar on tabla was impressive. P.N. Paramesh looked after makeup work.
