Purisai Duraisami Kannappa Thambiran Paramparai Therukoothu Manram and South Zone Cultural Centre, Thanjavur celebrate Kalaimamani Kannappa Thambiran Centenary Festival and his 8th Memorial Theatre Festival on October 1, 2 and 3, at Kannappa Thambiran Arangam, Purisai Village, Cheyyar Taluk, Thriuvannamalai District. The events on October 1 include the unveiling of the statue of Kannappa Thambiran by Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam, and portraits of late Therukoothu artists, presentation of Award for Lifetime Achievement to Murugan Rao, leather shadow puppeteer, by Prof Mu. Ramasamy, Department of Drama, Tamil University, Thanjavur, and book release function. The guests at the function include Thotta Tharani, art director, Sadanand Menon, art critic and photographer, Na. Muthuswamy, founder, Koothu-p-pattarai and other eminent personalities.
Among the programmes on the second day are a seminar on Organic Cultivation and screening of the short film, ‘Kathrika.’ The events on the third day (October 3) begin with ‘Western music,’ a drum session by Arani Rajanila Prakash, followed by a documentary on Kannappa Thambiran.
