More than a hundred students from schools in Kochi gathered to stage Charles Dickens' ‘Oliver Twist.'
The story revolves around the protagonist Oliver Twist, an orphan who joins a group of pickpockets.
How he is caught in the act of pick pocketing, tried in court and finally adopted, forms the rest of the story.
Michael Muthu, a theatre personality from Chennai, did a commendable job in putting the show together. The children exhibited great team work and camaraderie; yet one felt that much of their talents were left untapped.
Singing prowess
Nick Cyriac, who played the protagonist Oliver, proved his singing abilities as he crooned ‘Where is Love.'
Another actor who stood out was Anamika Haridas, who enacted Nancy. Anamika and a group of girls did a wonderful rendition of ‘As long as he needs me.'
The musicians led by Sumesh, offered tremendous support. The songs had the verve and feel of numbers from old Hollywood flicks. The play was presented by Magic Theatre at Kerala Fine Arts Society Hall in Kochi.
