Subhashini Giridhar is Chartered Accountant by profession and Bharatanatyam dancer by passion. And to mark her silver jubilee of her career, she put together both her interests and choreographed a ballet with a subject ‘New concepts in Management themes’.
The dance was conducted by Renuka Prasad to vocal support provided by his wife Swetha — both popular names in the field of classical dance. Other talented accompanists were Sridharacharya on mridangam, Saikumar on violin and Uma Venkateswarlu on flute.
Subhashini opened her show with mandatory salutation to Vinayaka Vandeham Gana Nayakam and gave taste of jatis immediately after abhinaya for pallavi line. This was followed by Tamil varnam Naadhanai Azhithu Vaa in Kambhoji, Adi talam that tested her inner strength to rhythm and abhinaya. This composition of Swami Malai K. Rajarathnam Pillai had in-built spaces for the artiste to present complicated jatis and probing abhinaya.
Subhashini then chose to interpret the sringara kirtana Emoko Chigurutadharamula of Annamacharya. This was pure Abhinaya number she had gone through well. Vocalist Swetha’s rendition of the song was so perfect, melodious and animated that the dancer’s output was elevated. So was the next number –Thyagaraja’s Ksheerasagara Sayana in Devagandhari presented in pure mime.
Later Subhashini presented first and third pasurams. In Hanumantha Deva Namo of Purandaradasa in Poovikalyani the sanchari Bhava expresses a Ramayana sequence in which Sita is crazy to get the golden deer and ends with Hanmuman bringing ‘Choodamani’ of Sita to Rama and ends with Rama’s coronation. Subhashini concluded her show with a tillana of Tanjore quartet in Behag.
