The sathabisheka function of Sri Jayendra Saraswati, chief of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam, took place past Monday at the Math in Kanchipuram. As part of the celebration, a scheme was announced for the benefit of Vedic pandits past 60 years of age. A sum of Rs. 1,000 will be given to them as monthly pension.

As many as 70 veterans were chosen with some of them received the document from Sri Jayendra Saraswati on the occasion. Sri Vijayendra Saraswati performed pada puja and kanakabisheka for the Guru, a ritual that was witnessed by hundreds of devotees.

Chennai-based Sarma Sastrigal has taken upon the task of initiating 108 persons into Panchayatana puja. The boxes containing the required material were placed at the Adishtanam of Paramacharya on Tuesday. Sri Vijayendra Saraswati performed puja and handed over the boxes. The initiation ceremony will take place today in Chennai. For details contact 9444380973.
