The right path

When a man is on travel, he often comes to junctions and crossroads, and gets mixed up about which road to take. Life too is a journey, the goal being the attainment of liberation from repeated worldly life, and in this journey too, the paths are many, said K.Sambandan, in a discourse. We could take the right path and attain the feet of God. Or we could take the wrong path, and never reach our destination.

Saint Tirumoolar said that God gave us a good path for us traverse on. But on the edges of the path, He also placed thorns. If we walk on the good path that He has laid out for us, we will have a comfortable journey, with no confusions, and finally reach the goal. But what happens, if we are to stray from the right path? There are the thorns to prick us and hurt us. Thus it is in the journey of life too. The Lord has given us choices. He has shown us the path, and made it clear to us that the consequences of stepping aside from the path will be hurt and misery. The choice is ours —whether we stay on the straight path, or deviate and get hurt.

We have a huge accumulated bag of sins, known as Sanchita Karma. Of this, a small portion is responsible for our present experiences on this earth. But while we are here on the earth, we only keep adding to the already huge baggage of sins. So the more we stray from the right path, the more our births on this earth, and greater the chance of our adding to our karma. So the way out is to stick to the path shown by Him and use it to break free of this repetitive cycle.
