The ancient temple of Sri Venkata Varadaraja Perumal of Perumbakkam village is getting ready for consecration, fixed for July 7. The temple is under renovation.

Perumbakkam is situated in a quiet village about seven kilometres from Villupuram on the Tirukovilur Highway (via Mambazhapattu). Built about 800 years ago, the temple is known as Dakshina Ahobilam (so declared by the 37 Jeer) since the presiding deity has the image of Lord Narasimha etched on his chest. The deity got the name because he is seen with both katika hasta (Tirupati Venkateswara) and varada hasta (Sri Varadaraja of Kanchipuram).

The utsava murthy, in addition to Sudarsana Chakram and Sankham, has Sarangam – the bow. Garuda with open wings is another unique feature in this temple.

Navaratri, Panguni Uthiram, Sri Vedanta Desikar’s Sravanam, Sri Nammazhvar’s Vaikasi Visakam, Ramanuja’s Chitirai Thiruvathirai, Adi Puram and Vaikunta Ekadesi are celebrated in a grand manner.
