The Maha Kumbhabishekam of the 13th Century Temple of Arulmigu Brahannayaki samedha Arulmigu Valavanadeeswarar Thirukoil at Valayathur, Arcot Circle, Vellore District, will be performed on April 18, 9 a.m. – 10 a.m.

The rituals begin with Mahaganapathy homam and Navagraha homam on April 16.

The fourth kala yagasala puja will be performed at 7 a.m. on April 18 and culminate in the Kumbabhishekam.

From the inscriptions on the walls of the temple, you know that the Valavanadeeswarar Temple has been in existence even before the 13th Century.

There are four stone slabs in the sanctum sanctorum, which record the contributions made by kings belonging to Chola, Pallava, Nayak and Sambuvaraya dynasties.

The cost of the four-day event is Rs.5 lakhs. So funds are sought from devotees for the smooth conduct of the Kumbhabishekam and for the completion of the renovation work.

Contributions in the form of MO/cheque may be made in favour of Valavanadeeswarar Trust and sent to V. Ananthakrishnan, president of the trust at No.72, 7th Street, Sai Nagar, Virugambakkam, (Phone: 2479 3273; 98410 58871)
