The Tamil month of Aani has seen quite a few consecrations with more slated in the coming week across the city.

The famous Kandakottam wears a festive look with Mahakumbabishekam taking place on July 15, 9-10.30 a.m. The principal deity Sri Kandaswamy and the utsavar Sri Muthukumaraswamy of this 17 century temple, located on Rasappa Street, Park Town, have been worshipped by Vallalar and Pamban Swamigal. Seated inside the temple, Vallalar composed Deivamanimalai and the ten verses of Kandar Charanam at the age of nine. Paamban Swamigal has praised the deity in his Shanmukha Kavacham.

Sri Devasena Tirukkalyanam and the procession of all the utsavamurtis in golden and silver mounts will take place 5 p.m. onwards on July 15. Mandalabishekam begins on July 16. Sri Tiripurasundari sameda Sri Ardanariswara temple in Egmore has been renovated and mahakumbabishekam will take place on July 15, 9-10.30 a.m. in the presence of Iyermalai Sri Pranavananda Swamigal. Eulogised by Appar in his verses, the ancient temple disappeared at a point of time.

About 200 years ago, when a huge tank in the vicinity dried up, a massive Sivalingam and Vinayaka were found. An abode was built for the swayambu lingam and the Ardanariswarar temple has now been renovated by Saptaraishinathar Trust (9444949361) with the help of philanthropists.

Consecration will be followed by annadanam. Tirukkalyanam will take place at 6 p.m.

The Siva-Vishnu temple in Prakash Nagar, Tiruninravur, will take place on July 14, 11 a.m. The temple has shrines for Sri Boodevei Sridevei sameda Srinivasa Perumal and Sri Visalakshi sameda Sri kasi Viswanathaswamy. Contact 8754463524 and 9380410238 for details.

Arulmigu Santhanayaki Trust has proposed to perform the punarudharana Ashtabandhana mahakumbabishekam of Arulmigu Santhanayaki Ambal Samedha Arulmigu Adhipureeswarar temple, Pallikaranai, on July 15, between 9 and 10.15 a.m. Festivities in connection with the consecration will begin from today - Vigneswara puja, ‘Go’ puja, yagasala puja, moola mantra homams will be performed during the four-day event. On the day of consecration (July 15), mahakumbabishekams for rajagopuram and vimanams will be performed between 9.45 and 10 a.m. and for Sri Santhanayaki Ambal Samedha Sri Aadhipureeswarar and moorthigal between 10 and 10.15 a.m. Tirukalyana utsavam will take place at 5 p.m. followed by the procession of the deity. The noothana rajagopura dwajasthamba astabandhana mahasamprokshanam of Sri Perundevi Nayika Samedha Sri Venkata Varadha Perumal Temple , Paruthipattu, Avadi, Chennai 600071, will be performed on July 14, between 11 a.m. and 12 noon.

The festivities in connection with the consecration will begin from July 11. Sri Venkata Varadha Perumal Kaingarya Sabha solicits funds from devotees.

Sri Ratnagiri Balamurugandimai Swamigal and Kalavai Sri Sachitananda Swamigal will be present to witness the consecration of Sri Tiripurasundari sameda Sri Tribhuvaneswara Swami, Kolathur, on July 15, 9-10 a.m. A speciality of the temple is that it has two Sivalingas, one in the sanctum sanctorum and the other in a separate shrine outside. It is believed a Siddhar must have worshipped Siva and merged with Him. Wheat-based neivedyam is offered for progeny. The Ambal faces east and devotees offer special prayers for marriage. The presence of Naga stones make it a sarpa dosha nivarti sthalam, it is said.

Sankata Hara Vinayakar Trust, Madipakkam, is conducting the consecration of Siva-Vishnu temple on Dr. Ambedkar Road, Periyar nagar Extension, Madipakkam, on July 15, 9-10 a.m. A new Rajagopuram has been constructed and shrines for Virabadrar and Lingothbavar have been added to this temple where the presiding deities are Sri Tiripurasundari sameda Sri Omkareswarar and Sri Mahalakshmi sameda Sri Adikesava Perumal.
