The shoot of film director M. Mohanan’s My God is underway at a priest’s house adjacent to a church at Vazhithala near Thodupuzha. As the director calls for action, Suresh Gopi sits on a chair and looks at a computer screen. He is interacting with the priest, played by Sreenivasan, as Honey Rose stands in a corner.

Once the shot is canned, the crew goes in for some close ups.

“We are narrating a story most of us can relate to. In some families, parents unintentionally turn out to be adversaries in their children’s lives. They themselves set dreams, which the children are expected to live up to. In the process, talents and ambitions of the children go unnoticed. Comparisons with other children create tremendous stress for the young ones. It has reached a stage where we often gauge our children’s merits on the basis of the marks they score in examinations or the jobs that they get,” says Mohanan, director of Kadha Parayumbol , Manikyakkallu and 916 .

Sam Thottungal (debutant Adarsh Nair), a 15-year-old, is the main character in this story. He is the third child of Scaria Thomas (Joy Mathew), a planter. Sam’s siblings, much older to him, are IT professionals.

Sam is not good in studies and his parents are annoyed. He is close to Father Vadakkan (Sreenivasan), the priest in the nearby church, and also with some men in the locality.

Suresh Gopi plays Aadhiraja Bhattathiripad, the CEO of an IT company based in the United States (U.S.). His wife, Aarathi (Honey Rose) is a child psychiatrist. They become acquainted with Sam.

“The scene being shot now has Aadhi and Aarathi paying the priest a visit. They have come to talk to him about Sam,” explains the director.

“Aadhi wants his wife to go with him to the United States (U.S.) and that is when he gets acquainted with the child,” says Suresh Gopi, about his character. Honey Rose says her character is dedicated to her career and that is affecting her family life. Adarsh Nair, who lives with his parents in Ahmedabad, was selected to play the lead role after several rounds of auditions.

My God has been produced under the banner of Karunya V.R. Creations. Jithu Damodar is the cinematographer and Biji Bal has composed the music. Stills are by Mohan Surabhi.
