After making its mark on the map of television and feature films, the Essel Vision Productions Limited (EVPL), a subsidiary of Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (ZEEL) is all set to foray into new platform of content creation with repurpose digital content targeted at younger people.

Nitin Keni, Chief Executive Officer of ZEEL said, the idea is to retain young generation, which is fast turning its back on television. “Today younger generation is not watching TV. They are turning their back on TV due to advancement of latest technology and electronic gadgets like mobiles and Internet. We now plan to become repurpose digital content provider,” remarked Keni, who is in Goa attending the 45 edition of IFFI. Keni, who has produced shows like “Fear Files”, “Dance India Dance” and “India Ke Best Dramebaaz”, spoke of a massive increase seen in the digital technology, the increase of platform for content for TV, cinema, Internet and mobile devices.

At the 45th IFFI, four of the seven features films produced by the EVPL are being screened in Indian Panorama section. He added that Essel Vision will invest about Rs.2-3 crore for digital content even as it had cinema, TV and digital platform, to strike a balance.

The Essel Vision which was promoted in June 2012, produces 8-9 feature films every year. Keni also spoke of their plans to increase its production capacity to 12 films from next year.

Besides producing feature films in Hindi and Marathi, the company has also made inroads into Bengali cinema by producing its maiden Bengali film “Force - The Power Within”, a remake of South Indian film starring Prosenjeet Chatterjee, Arpita Chatterjee and Arya Dasgupta.

Keni revealed they are now looking at doing films in strong regional language film industries of South India with collaborations and tie-up for joint ventures with local filmmakers.

As many as four Marathi feature films “Elizabeth Ekadashi”, “Killa” (The Fort), “Dr. Prakash Baba Amte – The Real Hero” and “Lokmanya” — all produced by Essel Visions Productions — are being screened in Indian Panorama section.
