When Pandit Ravi Shankar struck a chord with The Beatles’ lead guitarist George Harrison, he explained to the world the need to look beyond boundaries, the close link between genres, and the intensity of Indian classical music. Salute many legends like the sitar virtuoso for inspiring youngsters such as Jayateerth Mevundi, U. Rajesh and the Trichur brothers Ramkumar and Srikrishna Mohan to pursue classical arts as passionately as they did and engage audiences around the world, particularly the young, in a cultural dialogue.
Prakriti, seems an ideal title for the collaborative work of this four-member youth brigade. In this context it means change is a natural phenomenon. And the concert will reflect the changing sensibilities of the art. They will revisit traditional compositions, add their own creative flavour to them, and present them to a cosmopolitan audience at the November Fest.
U. Rajesh and his acclaimed brother U. Shrinivas have brought the Western instrument mandolin to the centre-stage at kutcheris, besides lending an Indian touch to global fusion works. In Prakriti, Rajesh will support the three vocalists by creating diverse sound textures and dynamics on the strings.
Trichur Brothers have over the past few years been making their presence felt on the kutcheri circuit. Adhering to the patanthara, they retain the tradition bhavam of the compositions in their singing. Together with Jayateerth Mevundi, the outstanding young Hindustani vocalist, they will render popular pieces from the two classical styles of the North and the South, choosing common ragas as their meeting point. Belonging to the Kirana Gharana, Jayateerth has been trained by Sriparti Paadegar, the prime disciple of the legendary Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, and has been praised for his impeccable gayaki .
Expect an evening of musical bonhomie and a multi-dimensional experience.
