Sri Padmanabha National Academy of Fine Arts performed an instrumental group rendition at Mahati auditorium, Tirupati, last week. The event was part of the series of music concerts organised jointly by the TTD’s propagation arms — Annamacharya Project, Dasa Sahitya Project, Hindu Dharma Prachara Parishat and Sri Venkateswara College of Music and Dance, coinciding with Tirumala Navaratri Brahmotsavams.
It was a rare collection of around 30 instrumentalists, including 13 violinists, four guitarists, five keyboard players, one flute player and a veena artiste. The ensemble has also had percussionists on mridangam, ghatam, tabla and the tamborin. The Academy President K. Padmanabham coordinated the event, while N.V. Sasidhar from Bhimavaram not only conceived the idea, but also led the artistes from the front, leaving a mark of perfect coordination.
Starting with mohana varnam , the team played Thyagaraja Kritis like marugelara , bantureethi and Annamayya compositions like thandanana , vedukondama , Ramadasu’s paluke bangaramayana , besides jaya janardhana and lingashtakam .
The show culminated with nadaswaram.
