A large number of musicians paid tribute to the musical trinity — Sri Thyagarajar, Muthuswami Dikshitar and Shyama Sastrigal — at the valediction of the week-long Carnatic Sangeetha Mummoorthigal Jayanthi Music Festival here on Tuesday.
The festival was organised by the Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peeta Carnatic Sangeetha Seva Trust.
The musicians took the portrait of Saint Thyagaraja from his ancestral house in New Street on a procession, to the accompaniment of thavil and nagaswaram performance by the students of the Government Music School.
After unjavrithi and special poojas, the musicians, from various parts of the country, rendered pancharathna krithis in chorus for more than an hour on the Arulmigu Thyagarajaswami Temple campus.
Noted Carnatic musicians T. M. Krishna, A. S. Murali, Mambalam sisters, Anuradha Krishnamoorthy, Sangeetha Sivakumar and singers from Canada and Bahrain, were among those participated.
A large number of music lovers from across the State witnessed the event and paid their tributes to the musical trinity.
Later Dr. Sundar rendered musical discourse on the life and achievements of Sri Thyagarajar. Concerts by leading musicians were held.
N. K. Moorthy, president, Seva Trust, presided over the valediction held in the evening. Nalli Kuppuswamy was the chief guest and he honoured mridanga vidwan Thanjavur Ramadoss with Seva Bhushan title.
