The 16th episode of the ongoing Kshetra Sangeetham series will be held on April 6. This time around, the focus is on Kasi. It will be held on April 6, 2013 at 6 p.m. in Narada Gana Sabha Mini Hall.
The concept of ‘Kshetra Sangeetham’ is the brainchild of Carnatic musician Vijayalakshmy Subramaniam, a disciple of Sangita Kala Acharya S. Rajam. The series is organised in association with Narada Gana Sabha.
Usually, this thematic programme comprises a presentation about various aspects a kshetra or centre – the temples and their uniqueness, the composers who have sung in praise of the kshetra and other points of musical significance of the kshetra. This will be followed by a concert with a focus on different vaggeyakaras’ compositions on the kshetra.
Dr. Vijayalakshmy will present the concert, preceded by a talk by Smt. Devaki Muthiah, Tamil scholar and author.
Dr. Vijayalakshmy will be accompanied by Charumathi Raghuraman (violin), Mannakroil J. Balaji (mridangam) and G. Hariharasharma (kanjira).
