The ongoing Kshetra Sangeetham series will feature ‘Swamimalai’ in its 13th edition. This will be held here on September 9 at the Narada Gana Sabha Mini Hall.
Organised by Narada Gana Sabha, Kshetra Sangeetham, a musical journey, commenced in January, 2010 and has, till date, covered 12 temple towns — Kanchipuram, Chidambaram, Srirangam, Madurai, Tiruvarur, Chennai, Sringeri, Tiruvaiyaru, Tirupati, Tiruchendur, Guruvayoor and Vaitheeswaran Koil .
Each programme comprises two parts — a talk by a scholar, historian or academician, and a concert. The first part will highlight interesting facts about the temple town, the temple’s uniqueness, the composers who have sung in praise of the kshetra, and other aspects of musical significance. A concert by Vijayalakshmy Subramaniam will follow and this will focus on compositions and devotional hymns especially related to the kshetra in focus that day.
The speaker this time around is R. Krishnaswamy. The vocal concert of Vijayalakshmy Subramaniam will be supported by R. Hemalatha (violin), Shertalai Ananthakrishnan (mridangam) and Trichy Murali (ghatam).
