Maharajapuram S. Srinivasan and his son S. Ganesh Viswanathan presented a vocal concert at the monthly music programme held at the FGN Hall of the Rasika Ranjana Sabha, Tiruchi.
The duo was accompanied by N.C. Madhav, (graded artist of AIR), on the violin and Koviladi Madhwaprasad on the mridangam.
The concert commenced with ‘Nera Nammi,’ a varnam by Poochi Srinivasa Iyengar, in ragam Kaanada. This was followed by Dikshitar’s ‘Ratna Gamma Ganapathe’ in Mohanam and Tyagaraja’s ‘Telisi Rama,’ in a fast paced Poornachandrika ragam with neat and apt swaras.
Extensive RTP
Maharajapuram Srinivasan’s deep delineation was in Pantuvarali for the Tyagaraja kriti, ‘Aparama Bhakti’ with niravals in charanam and telling kalpanaswaras. His Mohanakalyani delineation for the Muthaiah Bhagavatar kriti, ‘Bhavaneswaria’ and an extensive ragam (Thodi), tanam and a rare ragamalika pallavi ‘Then Pazhani Vadivelane,’ mesmerised the rasikas.
The duo ended the concert with a tillana in Saranga, a paasuram in Brindavani and their traditional rendering of the Revathi raga kriti, ‘Siva Sambo,’ by Anaikkatty Dhayananda Saraswathi. The accompanists were offered enough time in which they amazed the audience and the thani was aplomb. P.K. Srinivasan, joint secretary, Rasika Ranjana Sabha, rendered the introductory speech.
