Sanjeeta Bhattacharya is an upcoming talent who is adept at singing both classical Hindustani music as well as western music. She recently had a concert at Alliance Francaise where she sang renditions of classical jazz and soul numbers by Aretha Franklin, Etta James and Ella Fitzgerald. The 18 year-old singer also sang songs from films like “Phantom of the Opera”, “Miss Saigon”, “Annie Get Your Gun” and performed duets with Brett Hanson, who was the guest singer.
As far as her interest in Hindustani classical music is concerned, Sanjeeta, daughter of eminent visual artist, Sanjay Bhattacharya, has been training under Sunanda Sharma learning the intricacies of Banaras gharana. While she has a concert of Hindustani classical music in the coming days at India Habitat Centre, she is repeating her Western music concert on July 25 at Alliance Francaise. She is heading out to Berklee College of Music in Boston soon to pursue professional music with emphasis on performance.
