Soft melodies wafted under the crimson shades of a setting sun in Rajiv Smruthi Bhavan on the Beach Road in Visakhapatnam, as violinist A. Sathya Vishal bowed his way into the hearts of music lovers. It was a pleasant concert with a soothing effect on an enjoyable Sunday evening.
He opened the concert with Ninukori – a varnam in raga Mohana. Presenting Pallavi in 1st kalam, anupallavi in 2nd kalam and charanam in 3rd kalam, it warmed up the session for a treat that met the expectations. Then came Maha Ganapathim of Muttuswamy Dikshitar in Nata. The presentation picked up tempo with soothing Amruthavarshini. Adorned with good swarakalapana, it was a neat rendition. The kriti for this was Sri Rama Paadama of Thyagaraja. The touch of devotion in its rendition remained warmly perceptible.
Talented Satya Vishal rendered each piece sparklingly, with an eye for detail. His musical sensibility and grasp of lyrical tone the composition taken up made it an endearing presentation. His first raga essay of the evening was for raga Malayamarutham. The kriti for this was Manasa , again of Thyagaraja.
In a brief yet appealing delineation he profiled its melodic shades of restful nature.
His choice for the mainstay of the evening was raga Keeravani. In a tuneful rendition, he elaborated the raga in a layered manner touching its salient phrases with finesse, his admirable treatment effectively brought out its quintessential raga bhava. Taanam in ragamalika comprising Bowli, Kapi, Kanada and Sindhubhairavi further accentuated its appeal.
Doing it in a leisurely pace he chose to build it up in an effective manner letting the audience enjoy its varied shades in full.
Smaravaram Varam and an Ashtapadi of Jayadev in raga Sindhubhairavi were other highlights of the concert. Vijayasri on supporting violin and G Venkatrao on mridangam lent good support.
