Chandrika Srinivas’s vocal concert took place at Sri Rama Gana Sabha, Tiruchi, recently. A Bharatanatyam dancer and Carnatic musician, she runs an institution dedicated to these arts in Perth, Australia. A student of R.K. Srikantan, she is pursuing her doctoral studies.
Chandrika Srinivas commenced her performance with a varnam in Madhyamavati and then moved on to render many kritis by Mysore Vasudevachar, Harikesanallur Muthaiah Bhagavatar, Dikshitar and Purandaradasa. The main raga she chose for the evening was Purvikalyani, which was rendered with confidence. There was a certain calmness that prevailed throughout her rendition.
She was accompanied by Tiruchi R. Subramani on the violin, who supported her ably and melodiously in the main raga Purvikalyani. V.M. Sai Akhileshwar from Singapore, accompanied her on the mridangam. He is a scholarship holder from the Government of Singapore, studying Rhythmolgy at the Anna University. Malaikottai R.M. Deenadayalu’s exuberant treatment of morsing added a sparkle to the evening’s kutcheri.
