Violin exponent, A. Kanyakumari, has earned mention in the India Book of Records for her effort to capture highlights of a cricket match, the modern version in particular, through classical music. The ‘Carnatic Violin Symphony’ wins accolades for the novel venture that underlines a century, catch, four, sixer, wicket fall, etc., through strains on the violin, the artist employing different ragas to define the moments.
“This is a really great achievement and unique speciality in itself, that a lady, known for her ensembles and non-stop playing, holds such a great talent… India Book of Records takes pleasure in felicitating the unique initiative of this personality,” says a press release. It may be recalled that Friday Review (March 9) published an article on Kanyakumari’s effort with inputs from various musicians. “I had read in a newspaper about the India Book of Records. ‘Carnatic Violin Symphony’ was a novel venture but cannot be categorised as a performance. Anyway, I went ahead and sent the DVD with my biodata. It is a pleasant surprise,” says Kanyakumari.
