Recitals bring cheer

A three-day cultural event was held at Srirangam, Tiruchi, in connection with the Vaikunta Ekadasi festival.

The three-day cultural event, which featured vocal concerts, dance drama, Bharatanatyam, Tamizhisai and other folk arts of the State, was held at Srirangam, Tiruchi, in connection with the Vaikunta Ekadasi festival and brought cheer to the devotees.

Jointly organised by the State Department of Art and Culture, South Zone Cultural Centre, Thanjavur, Regional Centre for Art and Culture and the Tiruchi District Kalai Manram, it was held in the open on West Chitra street.

The festival commenced with a mangala isai by the students of Government Music School. Rasika Prasad troupe presented Tamizhisai, which was followed by another Tamizhisai concert by Srirangam Susithra sisters. The fourth and final programme of the opening day was a Bharatanatyam performance by Tiruchi Sivathani Kalakshetra troupe.

Srirangam Abirami Mandali troupe presented a vocal concert on the second day, followed by Tamizhisai by Kashyap Mahesh. Tiruchi Sri Sakram Dance School students and Mayur Natyalaya Devika Sukanthi troupe presented separate Bharatanatyam recitals.

Tiruchi Isaipalli Swaminathan and other students presented Layakolam programme on the final day. Tiruchi Sri Puranthari Dance School, Sri Vidya Sundaresan troupe presented a Bharatanaytam recital and Dindigul Nadhalaya Nattiya Kalalaya troupe presented Natha Laya Nattiyam.

The festival had a fitting finale with Revathi Muthuswamy troupe of Srirangam Bharatha Natyalaya presenting a dance drama.
