Select students of vocal and mridangam from Kalabharathi School of Music and Dance established by Visakha Music and Dance Academy, presented vocal recitals of short duration and layavinyasam on last Friday at Kalabharathi. While noted veena vidooshi Mallapragada Jogulamba was guest of honour, Academy secretary, G.P.K. Prasad (Rambabu) exhilaratingly compered the programme.
The highlights were the rendering of Giriraja Sutha and Sree Saraswathi adorned with simple swaram by Sruthi, Sowmya, Vaijayanthi, Sindhuja, Gayatri and Srujana; Sree Gananadham Bhajare and O Rama Sree Rama by Vaishnavi, Santoshini, Pavan, Srimukhi, Karishma, Charishma, Harshitha and Himabindu; Rama Kodanda Rama and Narayanachutha by Kavitha, Akhila, Madhuri, Indira and Aarathi; Sree Rama Paadama and Naada Tanumanisam by Anjani, Kavya, Nalini, Lalithya, Bhargavi, Aneesh and Prameela; Bhagyalakshmi and Ittimuddulaadi by Pranavi, Lakshmi Priya, Koumudi, Kameswari, Chandrika and Divya; Kshreerasagara Vihara and Ramakrishna Govinda by Sahithi, Malyada, Mukunda Priya, Keerthi, Sai Divya, Sanjana and Nischalal.
The most fascinating event of the evening was the layavinyasam stunningly presented with perfect precision on mridangam by 13 year old V. Sai Srikar (winner at almost all state-level competitions), V. Jayadeep Sarma and V. Sreeram (who regularly accompanies recitals by artistes in the making). Negotiating Chaturasra, Trisra and Khanda gathis with felicitous charm like professionals, they attracted reverberating applause in general and encomiums from the knowledgeable. Mridangam teacher (noted vidwan) G. Venkata Rao, vocal teachers Vani Swayamprabha Devi and M. Janaki Ramam conducted layavinyasam and vocal recitals. Noted artiste M. Neeladrirao and Sreeram on mridangam lent excellent support for the vocal recitals. Guest of honour Jogulamba who presented the mementoes was all praise for the teachers and performers.
