A dual music programme by young talents from the U.S. - master Sudarshan Mohan and Shashank Subramanian - Shruti Subramanian - featured by Upasana took place at Sri Kothandaramar temple, Ramnagar, Coimbatore. The numbers rendered with a powerful voice by Sudarshan Mohan revealed his talent in alapanas, niraval and kalpanaswaras. The artist’s consummate command over laya was evident in ‘Pavanathmaja’
in Nattai followed by ‘Orajupuju’ in Kalyani with a pleasing niraval at ‘Himadrisuthe.’ His elaboration of Bhairavi for the kriti, ‘Koluvai’ with imaginative sangatis, revealed his vidwat.
Sriranjani Ramkumar (violin) and Abhinav Seetaram (mridangam) ably supported the vocalist.
Compelling rendition
Shashank Subramanian and Shruti Subramanian, the siblings who rendered flute recital with the same accompaniments made their concert enjoyable. Their start with ‘Maha Ganapatim’ in Nattai and the following ‘Chetulara’ in Bhairavi were impressive. Their raga vinyasam of Mohanam for the kriti, ‘Ka..Pa..li’ with swaras and Simhendramadhyamam for the kriti, ‘Ninne Nammithi’ presented with bhava were compelling.
Abhinav Seetharam (mridangam) excelled in his rhythmic beats on the mridangam with compact arudis and korvais.
