The keyboard which is widely used as an instrument to provide orchestral accompaniment for film songs, has of late made its appearance in the Carnatic kutcheri platforms as well. There are a sizeable number of talented artists who give full length Carnatic music concerts with the instrument which is rapidly gaining popularity. Adhithi Ravichandran is one such talented artist, who however has specialised in the Hindustani system of classical Indian music. In this compact disc, she skilfully renders 20 ragas, bringing out their hues without any ambiguity. Adhithi has rendered alaps, jhor jaalas, gats in madyalaya, drut, bhajans, ghazals, dhuns and also a ragamalika.
Well-known melodies
The ragas chosen are frequently heard melodies such as Abohi,
Bagesri, Bhoop, Durga, Chandrakauns, Jinjoti, Kalavathi, Malkauns, Pooriya, Darbari Kanada, Brindawani Saranga, Charukesi, Shivaranjani and Yaman. The rare melodies rendered with ease are Basanth Mukhari, Bhibas, Bhilaskhani thodi, Gorakh Kalyan and Jogeshwari.
The tabla accompaniment by Jain Painadathe is meaningful. Adhithi gives lucid explanations on the structure of the ragas, the notes employed, the moods that they create and the time suitable for playing or singing these melodies. For Hindustani music lovers this disc will be a welcome addition.
