Bringing the house down at E-Zone, Swedish artiste and disk jockey Albin Myers engulfed the city's revellers not just with eclectic dance music, but also with his infectiously persona at a concert recently. Presented by Submerge, the DJ had the crowds grooving to his tunes.
A regular to the subcontinent, Albin says each trip he makes has its own unique experience. “It's a great feeling to be here in India. The country and its people have so much to offer and the clubs here feel just like home. The one thing I still haven't adjusted to here is the immense amount of traffic.”
Albin takes quite easily to Indian music and is a big fan of Bollywood music. “We just got back to the hotel after watching ‘Band Baaja Barat' and I find the music scene very colourful and flourishing with a rich diversity.”
When asked if he will use any Indian songs for his music, Albin chuckles immediately, “I think I'll use ‘Chaiya Chaiya' as an idea for an upcoming track!”
Starting at the age of 14, Albin honed his DJ skills playing at a friend's garage and when he was old enough to go to clubs, he started to expand his repertoire and soundscape.
Growing up in a theatrical and musical family, he had all the backing he needed and soon he was breaking ground at Stockholm's major clubs.
“The journey was one roller-coaster ride with its ups and downs. It was fun and the hard times just needed a little bit of patience and time.”
Several single releases, remix hits and top ranking albums later, Albin tours the world bringing his dance music that leaves no foot unmoved. His earliest influences in the electronica scene are The Prodigy and Daft Punk. “These pioneers in the field actually got me inspired. The energy and passion is what still keeps me so powered into my music,” he says.
The proficient Swede experiments with every genre possible garnering a unique impetus to his musicality. “What I play is typically Swedish House but it amalgamates everything into it and yields a progressively energy-charged dance experience.”
The record that brought him to the spotlight was his cover of the Foo Fighters track “Times Like These”. Believing in making music that is purely fun, Albin had a prolific music career spanning across years of well noted singles, fabulous remixes and albums.
Albin spends five days a week working at the studio and tours on weekends. But when he is not at work, he takes time for himself and family. “I try and spend as much time with family and friends. They are a big support to me and are huge fans themselves.”
Albin Myers' tips to a successful music career are simple: “Work, work and work a little more. Work your way up to the top. There are no shortcuts. Focus and never stop working to your goal.”
