Hamsadhwani's 17th NRI Music and Dance Festival was inaugurated by Jennifer Mcintyre, Consul General, U.S. Consulate General, Chennai, here on Friday.

Lauding Hamsadhwani for providing a platform to artistes of Indian origin living abroad, Ms. Mcintyre said the music festival of Chennai is replicated in the United States now. A good example of this is the ‘Thyagaraja Aradhana' festival in Cleveland, U.S..

“I did not want to miss my first music season in Chennai and decided not to go to the U.S. for Christmas and New Year celebrations,” she added.

Carnatic music is like Test cricket, which provides ample opportunity to the artistes to exhibit their talents, said R. Chandrasekaran, president and managing director (Global Delivery), Cognizant Technology Solutions.

In his opinion, three important factors were needed for Carnatic music: support from the youth, a global platform for the performing artistes and patronage for the programmes.

R. Subramanian, patron-in-chief, Hamsadhwani, also spoke.
