HYDERABAD: Ranganayaki Sachidanadan was another new face who was featured in the brief music fest held by Kalasagaram last week at Keyes high school, Secunderabad. She was from the family of eminent musicians from her grandfather Malaiappa Iyer down to her uncle Ramamurthy and father M. Rajaman — all eminent Vidwans. On this occasion she was accompanied by her husband D. Sachidanandam on violin and Madurai K. Thyagarajan on mridangam.

Ranganayaki opened her concert with Bhairavi Ata tala varnam and presented it in two speeds. She then went for Sri Mahaganapathim followed by Thyagaraja kirtana Ee Vasudha in Sahana with sahitya clarity. Later she chose to present Tamil composition Balasubramaniam of Tanjavur Shankara Iyer and popular kirtana Brochevarevare in Sriranjani, Divyanama Sankirtana of Thyagaraja. That set the spot for the presentation of the main number of the concert ‘Seshachalanayagam’ in Varali, Roopakatalam of Dikshitar. The raga was elaborated in great detail building tempo as it progressed to higher octave. Ascending and descending to Mandra were well gone through exercises. The kirtana rendition was indeed pleasant with melodic temper. She then presented neraval too, impressive sahitya prasthara. The swarakalpana that followed was quite exercising yielding good results in building the tempo. Ranganayaki sang another number of Thyagaraja Koluvai Yunnade Utsava Sampradaya kirtana of Thyagaraja in Devagandhari. She then went for major and creative number Ragam –Tanam-Pallavi in Bhairavi. This was set in rare Lakshmisam Talam. She explained what the position of this rare talam is. Raga and tanam presentation was brilliant and the pallavi part too was carefully etched. This was followed by tani avartanam by Thyagarajan. It was enjoyable execution. Sachidanandan on violin gave able support throughout the concert.
