As part of The Hindu Friday Review November Fest, musician Anil Srinivasan presents ‘The Piano Story', on the instrument's journey through musical history . The event will be held November 20 at Madras Seva Sadan Prayer Hall, next to Sir Muthu Venkatasubba Rao Concert Hall, Harrington Road, Chetpet, from 5 p.m. to 6.15 p.m. The event is open to all.
The piano, in its current form, is in itself a technological innovation over the antique hammered dulcimer, a form of instrument familiar to us as the Kashmiri (and Persian) santoor . In its long and interesting development to what it has become today, the piano has been adopted successfully into various musical styles.
Anil Srinivasan is a Chennai-based classical pianist whose collaborations with artistes such as Sikkil Gurucharan, Unnikrishnan, Lalgudi Krishnan, Ravikiran and U. Shrinivas have met with critical acclaim. Earlier this year, Anil was awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi's Yuva Puraskar for his pioneering work in creative and experimental music. He performs and lectures on music both in India and abroad.
